Iron and Wine

Sam Beam at the Paramount Theater 2010, playing with Calexico.  So many great memories come when listening to Iron and Wine.  My favorite is driving out to dripping springs, on the winding roads listening to Sam. A beautiful voice and a beautiful man.  The proceeds from this performance went to HAAM (health alliance for austin musicians) and MANA (midwifes association of north america).

Paolo Nutini

I took this photo at the 2006 Austin City Limits Festival.  Between the 2006-2007 Festivals I saw Paolo in concert 5 times.  Who can say no to a Scottish/Italian singer-songwriter.

IN A DREAM

The best documentary I have ever had the pleasure to see.  South by South West Film is a game of hit and miss ... it all depends on ignoring the blurbs, talking to people in line and walking out of awful films.  2008 was my first year to buy a film pass; in the end I went to 21 films in one week.  The two most outstanding films I saw, which I now use to rank all others were Matador and In a Dream.  Go to Vulcan and rent both.  Learn about El Fandi fighting bulls, and Isaiah Zagar's mosaics.

Devendra

If this blog is dedicated to everything and anything that strikes my fancy, then the logical beginning point would be Devendra Banhart.  My initiation into his haphazardly labeled 'freak folk' was the song "Little Yellow Spider." He only got better from that point on, I slowly accumulated new songs that were fascinating, delicate, and strange.  Finally, he came to Austin December 2008 and performed at La Zona Rosa, where I was able to meet him and most of the band after the show.

the plan ...

This blog will act as an outlet for all of the random information I accumulate in my daily life.  New music, things to do around town, showcasing my friends artistic endeavors.
